Here at Airdrie Foodbank, we’re big fans of Baxter’s Café in South Bridge Street in Airdrie. It’s not just because they have some fantastic homemade treats but because every single week, they donate homemade soup, rolls & cakes for our Friday foodbank at the Airdrie Baptist Church.
Around two years ago, Wesley & Brenda Baxter (the owners at Baxters Café), got talking to one of our volunteers at a Tesco collection day. After a brief chat with our volunteer Robert, they decided they wanted to do something to support the foodbank and offered to make fresh homemade soup and provide rolls.
Going to a foodbank for help can be a very upsetting experience for people and is usually a last resort. At Airdrie Foodbank, we understand how people are likely to be feeling when they come to the see us and we aim to make the whole experience as stress-free as possible.
Thanks to Baxter’s Cafe, we are able to offer people a warm, homemade meal while they speak to representatives from the Citizens Advice Bureau about their situation. We aim to provide a café atmosphere at the foodbank and the support from Baxters Cafe enables us to do just that!
We asked Wesley to tell us a bit about the reason he decided to start supporting the foodbank;
“We feel very fortunate and grateful to have the support from the local people who have helped us make our business a success. We just want to give something back to the community to show our deep appreciation.”
The support from local businesses like Baxter’s Café is really what keeps our charity going and enables us to continue to support those most in need in our local community.
