Gala performances for Airdrie Foodbank

5th July 2018

Funds for Airdrie Foodbank were boosted by over £700  last week with two Gala performances.

Entertainer Edward Reid started the show when he suggested a cash collection at his show at Sir John Wilson Townhall in Airdrie which included a personal appeal from Edward at the end of the show and raised over £350.

Whist the Airdrie Foodbank volunteers had a stall at Plains Gala Day and raised a magnificent £350.

Airdrie Foodbank manager, David Findlay, said: “It certainly has been a bumper weekend for fundraising at Airdrie Foodbank and a combination of the generosity and enthusiasm of the very talented Edward Reid and hard work of our volunteers giving up so much of their valuable time over the weekend has added over £700 of much  needed cash to our funds to purchase more food supplies.

On the operational side, the Foodbank’s  Robert Jack appealed for a “Flying Squad “ of volunteers. Explains Robert: “There are occasions when we require help at store collections when the core of our volunteers are engaged in the running of the day to day service.

All we require are volunteers who can give a few hours at fairly short notice to help with supermarket collections and perhaps helping with stock and food packing. This would not be a weekly commitment, but it would be a great help to the service.
